Driving along the West Coast on California Route 1, I see labyrinths of cliff-side roads that reveal stunning ocean shores, wind swept vegetation, sky high walls of cliffs beating to the tempo of never-ending pounding surf. I went to Bixby Bridge in Big Sur. It is both breathtaking and, a little scary. It was built at the height of the Depression in 1932. Over 280 feet high, it served as the entry point for the first cars to drive through Big Sur. The iconic image of this high arch bridge has been used many times for automotive and beer commercials because it came to symbolize the testosterone-driven sense of freedom people were looking for back in the late 60’s. It is the most photographed bridge on the west coast.

One of my regrets when I left California was not seeing these beautiful places. Thanks for sharing this amazing journey.
